About the climbing club

Aalborg Climbing Club has been around since 1991, when the club established. You can read more about our history further down on this page.
From the beginning, we’ve focused on community, good vibes, and making climbing a great experience. Climbing should be for everyone, which is why we offer different levels – whether you’re into sport climbing, bouldering, family climbing, or our “sunflower” sessions. What matters most to us is that there’s always something for you to climb on, whether you just want to have a chill session and see if the level of the yellow routes is still on point, or if you dream of becoming the next Katrine Salling. Or Thomas Blaabjerg.

We’re proud to say that we’ve got 10 different committees run by passionate volunteers. Together they make sure the club stays alive with social gatheirngs such as community dinners, workdays, parties, climbing trips, competitions, and much more. Without them – no Aalborg Climbing Club. If you’d like to join in, just reach out to a member of the committee you’re interested in joining. You can read more about all the committees →here.

What does the club have to offer you?

We can give you an inclusive and open community where everyone is welcome — no matter who you are, where you come from, or whether or not you even know what a gnarly crimp is.

Do you want to help make the community even stronger and the club even better than it already is? Then just reach out to us — at the club, by email, or on Facebook. You can check out our different committees and contact them directly, or have a chat with our club host about what interests you and how you might get involved.

The history of the club

The club was started by Jens Munk back in 1991. He had climbing experience from abroad and wanted to share his passion with others, so at the Aalborg Festival he set up a homemade climbing wall built from wooden boards and scaffolding pictured here →
When visitors tried climbing, they could also sign up if they were interested in starting a club (remember, there were no such thing as email newsletters in 1991!). 160 people signed up, 76 showed up to the founding meeting, and on October 1st, 1991 Aalborg Klatreklub was born — though back then it was called Nordjysk Klatreklub.

Over the years, the club has had several different locations around Aalborg and Nørresundby. After it was founded, the festival wall was moved to the old crane hall, and that was the climbing facility at the time. The club shared their space with Cirkus Charlie.

In 1992, an outdoor climbing wall was built on a silo — with overhanging routes! It was used all summer long, no matter the weather. That same year the club moved to Rosenlundsgade. There was 100 square meters to play around on, a wood stove as a heating source, and toilets out in the yard.

By 1994, the club had moved again — this time to Kummerowsvej. Sport climbing was evolving fast, and the walls were getting better. The quality of the bouldering meant we could train at an international level.

The following year, the club had regular training and social evenings, kids’ classes, and even helped start Klatring Danmark, the national climbing federation. Climbing was now officially a sport with an organization behind it.

In 1999, the club moved once more — this time to Voerbjergvej. There was even more space, and the walls and holds were at an international level. It was during the years at Voerbjergvej that the club changed its name to Aalborg Klatreklub.

The club stayed on Voerbjergvej for 19 years before moving to our current location on Annebergvej, where you can still enjoy top-quality climbing — where you can choose between our three bouldering areas, sport climbing hall, or on the campus board, MoonBoard, or spray wall. And in 2026, we’ll be adding yet another address to the list when we expand our bouldering facilities at Poul Larsens Vej 14 — with even more great climbing, good vibes, and fun events.
