Facilities

Sport climbing

Our rope hall measures 12 metres from floor to ceiling and in here you’ll find everything from slab to 90 degrees overhang, small, tiny foot holds, huge jugs, slopers, dual tex, tiny crimps, 30 year old holds and some straight from the factory. You should definitely find something here for you as the routes are graded from 5a to 8b+.

Most of our routes are set by our awesome volunteer route setters. We have our own lift, and the route-setting committee plans, together with our route-setting coordinator, when to take down holds, wash them, and set new routes. All of this is only possible thanks to our fantastic volunteers!

Needless to say, in order to sport climb, you need to have passed a belay course — K1 is sufficient if you’re belaying and climbing top-rope, or K2 if you’re climbing and belaying lead. In several places we’ve set up static ropes, making it easy for you to rig a top-rope.

Besides offering routes for most levels, we also have eight auto-belays around the gym. Perfect if your climbing partner went rock climbing without you. Or got sick (because obviously your partner wouldn’t go rock climbing without you). Auto-belays may only be used by members who have passed a K1 or K2 belay course.

For belay courses, we use the walls in the space we share with Aalborg Sportshøjskole. The quickdraws in our rope hall are permanently fixed to the wall. In a belay course, you need to be able to remove the quck draws from the bolt.

From the café area on the first floor, you can cheer on your fellow climbers sweating on the high walls. From here you’ve got a view into the rope hall and into one of our bouldering areas, known as “The New Boulder.” It got that catchy name simply because it was the last bouldering area we built and set.

You can also browse our library of guidebooks for climbing spots around Europe. Feel free to make yourself free coffee or tea in the kitchen, or grab a drink from our self-service fridge — perfect for sipping while you plan your next climbing trip.

Bouldering

Our bouldering facilities span two floors, and just like in the rope hall, you’ll find everything from slabs to 90-degree overhangs, tiny footholds, huge jugs, slopers, dual tex, tiny crimps, 30 year old holds and some straight from the factory.

In each bouldering area, you’ll see a white fabric box on the mat. That’s for your chalk bag. We’ve found that using these reduces the chance of someone landing on their own—or someone else’s—chalk bag when jumping down from the wall, and it also keeps the mats less dusty.

THE NEW BOULDER

On the first floor, you’ll find two different bouldering areas. The one mentioned earlier — “The New Boulder” — offers face, overhangs, and a spray wall with a tilting function. The spraywall is set up in the “Retro Flash” app.

In the room next door is “The Balcony,” overlooking Aalborg Sportshøjskole’s crossfit pit. The Balcony has two slab walls at 2 and 5 degrees, plus overhangs of varying steepness.

THE BALCONY

On the ground floor you’ll find “The Cave” where our MoonBoard is placed. The other walls offers everything from face to 90 degrees overhang.

THE CAVE

Other facilities

By the staircase inside the club, you’ll find different hangboards, dumbbells, and weight plates you’re free to use.

In the space we share with Aalborg Sportshøjskole, you’ll find our campus board. You can also use the kettlebells, dumbbells, barbells, and rowing machines made available by Sportshøjskolen.

That’s also where our high walls for belay courses are located. They’re 8 metres tall and feature only slab and face climbing.

Last but not least, outside on the grass — right behind Sportshøjskolen’s canoes and boards — you’ll find a legendary bouldering feature: “The Mushroom”! The Mushroom has holds bolted onto it, but its surface also has structures you can use as holds. There are no set problems here, so you can test your creativity and make your own. The Mushroom is also the only place in the club where you can top out — just like on a real boulder in Fontainebleau! At the top, there’s a hatch leading to a ladder inside, so you can climb down and exit through the opening. Make sure no one is climbing by the opening when you exit.
